Established in 1972, the Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID) brings together a nationwide community of professionals who are actively shaping how interior design is practiced, perceived and progressed in India. What began as a collective has evolved into one of the country’s most respected design bodies, connecting voices across disciplines, regions and generations.
IIID’s raison d’etre is to strengthen the profession from within. It sets standards, encourages ethical practices and creates platforms where ideas, knowledge and experience are shared freely. From fostering collaboration between designers and trade professionals to building bridges with international organisations, the Institute ensures that Indian design remains both culturally rooted and globally relevant.
Its inclusive membership structure reflects the true nature of the industry, bringing together designers, educators, students, trade partners and institutions into a single, collaborative network. Today, with over 10,000 members across 35 chapters and centres, IIID continues to build a community that is as diverse as it is committed.
IIID supports the profession through a range of initiatives that go beyond representation. It actively engages in education, research and continuous learning, offering updated academic frameworks, workshops, seminars and knowledge-sharing platforms that keep members aligned with evolving practices.
Through publications like INSCAPE and its digital platforms, the Institute ensures a steady exchange of ideas, insights and innovations from across the country.
The Institute’s bi-annual National Convention – NATCON – brings together members from across the country to discuss significant issues affecting the interior design profession. Each convention sets new benchmarks in creativity and solidarity within the fraternity. It also represents India on global platforms such as APSDA, ensuring that the voice of Indian interior design is part of larger international conversations.
At its core, IIID is built on fellowship. It encourages dialogue, nurtures professional relationships and advocates for the collective interests of the design community.
